Web3 Gamer: Women are more optimistic about blockchain games than men

Women in the Web3 gaming world are feeling optimistic, especially compared to their male counterparts, according to a recent report from the Blockchain Gaming Alliance (BGA).
The BGA found that 38.9% of women surveyed are expecting over 40% adoption of blockchain gaming within the next year, whereas only 25.1% of men share that outlook. The survey included insights from 623 participants across various roles in the Web3 gaming industry worldwide.
Interestingly, the survey also revealed that younger professionals in Web3 gaming are more confident in blockchain technology’s future in gaming. 81.6% of respondents between 18-24 years old believe blockchain adoption will exceed 20% in the next year, while those 45 and older are a bit more cautious.
Leaders in the industry are equally hopeful about the future. Base network creator Jesse Pollak believes that gaming onchain will revolutionize virtual ownership of in-game assets, allowing players to own and transfer assets across multiple games. Sovrun’s chief of staff, Gillian Pua, sees onchain games as a pivotal shift for immersive and interactive gaming experiences.
However, not everyone shares the same level of enthusiasm. Matt Dion, founder of gaming consultancy firm Always Scheming, mentioned that onchain gaming is still niche and struggling to find its footing. Despite this, recent advancements like integrating AI agents have brought renewed attention to the space.
Axie University, a once prominent institution in the Philippines during the Axie Infinity boom of 2021, has had to adapt significantly after the cryptocurrency market crash. Originally founded to support Filipino players looking to earn income through Axie Infinity, the university faced challenges as its scholars saw diminishing returns.
Co-founder Spraky, a well-known figure in the Filipino gaming community and community lead at Yield Guild Games, opted to shift the university’s focus towards being a mentorship platform for Web3 gaming in general. Now known as AXU, the university offers guidance and resources for aspiring Web3 professionals, reflecting a broader commitment to the growth of the industry.
Spraky and his team have expanded their reach to include various Web3 ecosystems, aiming to educate and empower individuals of all ages looking to navigate the space. The main metaverse program at AXU equips newcomers with the skills needed to thrive in Web3, emphasizing the vast opportunities available in this evolving industry.
